Oak Park and River Forest High School, or OPRF, is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, IL, a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one-school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 103 clubs and activities, and 34 competitive sports. We prepare our students well for post-secondary success, with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 96% graduation rate.

Position Summary:
The Part-Time Food Service Employee supports the daily operation of the high school cafeteria by providing excellent customer service to students and staff while maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient food service environment. Responsibilities include food service preparation, cashiering, station setup and breakdown, cleaning, and adherence to food safety and sanitation standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system and accurately process student and staff meal purchases.

Provide friendly, courteous, and efficient customer service to students, staff, and visitors.

Set up serving lines and food stations prior to meal service, ensuring food is properly displayed and stocked.

Break down serving stations after meal periods, including storing food properly and cleaning equipment.

Restock food, beverages, utensils, condiments, and supplies throughout meal service.

Assist with food preparation, portioning, and packaging as assigned.

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, serving areas, dining areas, and food service equipment.

Wash dishes, trays, utensils, and kitchen equipment as needed.

Follow all local, state, and federal food safety and sanitation regulations.

Handle food according to established health and safety guidelines.

Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food and supplies.

Report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or inventory shortages to the Food Service Manager.

Work collaboratively with food service staff to ensure efficient meal service.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Food Services.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous food service, cashier, or customer service experience preferred but not required. Ability to operate or learn a computerized point-of-sale (POS) system. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and coworkers. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and repetitive hand motions. Ability to work in hot, cold, and wet environments typical of commercial kitchens.

This position supports the school calendar and typically represents a 176-day work year
