JOB TITLE: EDM Operator
REPORTS TO: Tool and Die Manager
Position Summary
The EDM Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) equipment to produce precision components that meet engineering specifications and quality standards. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical drawings while ensuring high-quality output.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate wire EDM and/or sinker EDM machines to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, process sheets, and other technical documentation.
- Load materials, fixtures, tooling, and programs for production runs.
- Monitor machine operations to ensure dimensional accuracy, quality standards, and production efficiency.
- Perform in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
- Make necessary machine adjustments and offsets to maintain product quality.
- Troubleshoot machine, tooling, and process issues to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate production records, quality documentation, and ERP system transactions.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and basic machine upkeep.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area following 5S and company safety standards.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams on process improvements.
- Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and quality requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in machining preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience operating EDM equipment (wire and/or sinker EDM) in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T symbols, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail.
- Experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications preferred.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
