The City of Carson is now accepting applications for the part-time Recreation Assistant III classification. This position is employed throughout our Community Services, Recreation, & Park Maintenance Department which oversees City owned and operated parks, aquatic centers, and community center. The Community Services, Recreation, & Park Maintenance Department also oversees the administration of various community based social and health services, including art programs, senior activities, and Early Childhood education.
As such, the ideal candidates must be motivated individuals, who are eager to serve the community. This position requires excellent communication skills, ability to pay attention to details, and to work effectively with others.
These positions are part-time/temporary, at-will (FLSA: Non-Exempt) positions that are limited to a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year. Part-time employees are not typically eligible for benefits; however, they may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions.
Job Summary:
Under general supervision, supervise various recreational programs and activities at a recreation center; and perform related duties as required. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES (These functions are representative and may not be present in all positions in the class. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind related duties and work assignments.)

Assists in supervising a variety of activities for youth and adult groups at a recreation center as needed.

Teaches fundamentals of play and sportsmanship in sports and free play activities.

Explains, demonstrates and leads new and original games.

Assists in supervising non-athletic events and programs such as contests, dances, special events, established programs and excursion as needed.

Administers first aid.

May be assigned duties as sport official on an urgency basis.
