High School Career Counselor (US College Admissions & Academic Planning)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and student-focused High School Career Counselor to guide US high school students in making informed academic, extracurricular, and college admissions decisions. The ideal candidate will help students develop a personalized roadmap for college success, including course selection, competitive exam planning, leadership development, volunteer opportunities, competitions, internships, and extracurricular activities that strengthen college applications.
This role requires a deep understanding of the US education system, college admissions landscape, and strategies that help students gain admission to highly selective colleges and universities.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise students in Grades 8–12 on academic planning and course selection.
- Help students choose appropriate subjects, honors courses, AP/IB programs, dual-enrollment opportunities, and academic pathways aligned with their career goals.
- Create individualized multi-year academic and extracurricular roadmaps.
- Guide students on standardized testing strategies, including SAT, ACT, AP exams, PSAT, and other relevant assessments.
- Recommend and help students identify meaningful volunteer opportunities, internships, research projects, leadership programs, and community service activities.
- Assist students in selecting competitions, academic challenges, Olympiads, STEM programs, business competitions, debate tournaments, and other enrichment opportunities.
- Track student progress and ensure completion of milestones aligned with college admissions goals.
- Educate students and parents about college admissions requirements and trends.
- Conduct one-on-one counseling sessions and parent consultations.
- Maintain records, action plans, and progress reports for assigned students.
- Stay current with changes in college admissions policies, testing requirements, and educational opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, Psychology, Career Development, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in high school counseling, academic advising, college admissions counseling, or educational consulting.
- Strong knowledge of the US high school curriculum and college admissions process.
- Familiarity with AP, IB, Honors, Dual Enrollment, SAT, ACT, and extracurricular admissions criteria.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and educational stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Counseling, Education, or related field.
- Experience counseling students who have been admitted to competitive colleges and universities.
- Membership in professional counseling or college admissions organizations.
- Experience using college planning and student management platforms.
