American Traveler is seeking an experienced NICU RN for a 13-week travel contract at a Level 3 NICU in the Bronx, NY, with the ability to float between NICU, PICU, and Pediatrics.

Level 3 NICU in an acute care hospital setting, located on the 6th floor
-
40-bed NICU unit primarily serving neonatal patients; Peds unit sees patients up to 21 years old
-
Nurse-to-patient ratios: Level 1 = 1:1 or 1:2, Level 2 = 1:3, Level 3 = 1:4
-
Common diagnoses include prematurity, hypoglycemia, sepsis, neonatal withdrawal, congenital anomalies, respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and surgical/cardiology transfers
-
RT equipment includes NCPAP, oscillators, Bubble CPAP, NIMV, and high-flow oxygen
-
RNs are expected to read telemetry strips independently; no monitor techs on unit

Charting via Allscripts EMR

12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 13 shifts per 4-week schedule

Every other weekend required, with some flexibility per unit needs

Floating required to PICU, Peds, and Nursery; core staff attend deliveries

One holiday per contract typically required, with some flexibility
-
Royal blue scrubs required; scrub card provided for surgical scrubs
-
Active NY RN license required
-
Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP
-
Minimum 1 year of RN experience required

Previous Level 3 NICU experience required
-
Experience with intubated patients and mechanical ventilation, oscillators, OG/NG tubes, IV insertion, and central lines required
-
Strong critical thinking skills required

BSN not required
-
Position is primarily based in the NICU with floating responsibilities to PICU, Peds, and Nursery
-
Neonatologist is on call at night and rounds in the AM; house staff and attending are available 24/7
-
Nurse aides are available: 2 on days, one in each room, covering a main room of 12–16 babies
-
Charge nurses may take a patient assignment during low-acuity periods
-
Orientation consists of 2 days in the NICU department, 1 day in the nursery, and 1 day in the PICU
-
Travelers are asked to submit availability and remain flexible to fill scheduling gaps; block scheduling is not available
-
Excessive call-ins are taken seriously and may result to termination
