Part-Time French-Speaking After-School Nanny | Herndon, VA
A warm, professional family in Herndon, Virginia is seeking an experienced French-speaking nanny to care for their two school-aged children beginning August 24. This is an excellent opportunity for a dependable, engaging caregiver who enjoys creating a structured, supportive after-school routine while helping the children strengthen their French language skills.
The family values professionalism, reliability, and a nurturing presence. Mom travels periodically for work, so flexibility, consistency, and strong communication are especially appreciated.
Schedule
- Start Date: August 24
- Monday–Friday: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM
- 20–30 guaranteed hours per week
- Occasional weekend evenings for date nights are appreciated.
Children
- 10-year-old girl
- 8-year-old boy
The children speak English and Spanish, and the family is seeking a nanny who is fluent in French and can naturally incorporate the language into everyday conversations and activities.
Responsibilities
- School pick-up and transportation to extracurricular activities
- Create a structured, engaging, and nurturing after-school routine
- Prepare healthy snacks and occasional dinners for the children
- Assist with homework and encourage independence
- Plan age-appropriate educational and recreational activities
- Children's laundry as needed
- Tidy children's spaces and clean up after meals and activities
- Load/unload the dishwasher and assist with light household tasks related to the children
- Maintain open, professional communication with the parents
- Provide occasional weekend evening care for date nights
Qualifications
- Fluent in French (required)
- Minimum of 3 years of professional nanny or childcare experience
- Experience caring for school-aged children
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Reliable personal vehicle for transporting children
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to obtain before the start date)
- Comfortable maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in a private household
- Excellent professional references
Health & Safety
The family's son has food allergies to nuts, sesame, and eggs. The nanny must be comfortable following strict allergy protocols and willing to be trained in administering an EpiPen if needed.
Because of family allergies:
- Applicants cannot own or regularly transport dogs or cats, as the father is allergic to cats and the son is allergic to dogs.

- Comfortable using text messaging and scheduling apps for daily communication
- Interested in building a long-term relationship with the family
- Degree or coursework in Education, Child Development, Psychology, or a related field is a plus
- Previous experience working with professional or high-profile families is welcomed but not required
Compensation & Benefits
- $35–$45 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
