IPG Photonics Corporation is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Tax to lead the organization's global tax function. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of domestic and international tax compliance, tax planning, tax accounting, transfer pricing coordination, audits, and tax strategy to support the company's global operations and growth objectives.
The Director of Tax serves as a key business partner to Finance, Legal, Treasury, and executive leadership, ensuring compliance with evolving tax regulations while identifying opportunities to optimize the company's tax position and minimize risk. This role requires a strong technical tax background, leadership capability, and the ability to operate effectively in a complex global manufacturing environment.
- Lead and manage the company's global tax strategy across federal, state, local, and international jurisdictions.
- Develop and implement tax-efficient structures and planning strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Provide strategic guidance to executive leadership regarding tax implications of business decisions, acquisitions, restructures, and international operations.
- Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess organizational impact.
- Partner with external advisors, auditors, and legal counsel on complex tax matters.
- Oversee preparation and review of all federal, state, local, and international tax filings.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of corporate income tax returns, sales/use tax, property tax, VAT/GST, and other regulatory filings.
- Lead quarterly and annual tax provision processes in accordance with ASC 740.
- Manage tax-related disclosures and support financial statement audits.
- Ensure compliance with transfer pricing requirements and documentation standards.
- Support global operations with tax planning and compliance initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.
- Partner with Finance and Operations on intercompany transactions, transfer pricing, and global supply chain considerations.
- Evaluate tax impacts associated with manufacturing operations, inventory movements, and international expansion.
- Assist with tax implications tied to relocation, expatriate assignments, and global mobility programs.
- Lead tax audits, inquiries, and examinations from tax authorities.
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls related to tax processes and reporting.
- Identify and mitigate tax risks while ensuring adherence to corporate governance standards.
- Drive process improvements and automation initiatives within the tax function.
- Build, mentor, and develop the tax team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Accounting, Treasury, FP&A, HR, Legal, and Operations.
- Provide guidance and education to leadership teams on tax-related matters impacting the business.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA certification required; Master's in Taxation preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive tax experience, including corporate and international tax leadership experience.
- Experience within manufacturing, technology, or multinational organizations strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. federal, state, and international tax laws and ASC 740.
- Experience managing global tax compliance and transfer pricing matters.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with senior leadership.
- Experience leading audits and managing external tax advisors.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and tax software applications.
- Strategic thinker with strong business acumen.
- Ability to balance operational execution with long-term planning.
- Strong executive presence and communication skills.
- High attention to detail and organizational capability.
