Position Summary
Pump Dynamics is hiring a Senior Application Engineer to evaluate technical requirements and develop engineered equipment solutions for water, irrigation, municipal, industrial, semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing, and energy-related customers. This position is based out of our Riverside Equipment Services facility in Parma, Idaho. This senior-level engineer is expected to own complex applications independently, serve as a technical resource to the sales and service teams, and mentor less experienced engineers.
This role is built around service work first. A significant share of what Pump Dynamics sells is driven by equipment that is already installed and already failing; repairs, rebuilds, retrofits, and replacements. The Senior Application Engineer is expected to work from field findings: reading service reports and failure analyses, walking down existing installations, understanding why a pump failed, and making the call on whether to repair, re-engineer, or replace it. Candidates who have only sized new equipment from a specification, without exposure to the repair and aftermarket side of the pump business, will find this role a poor fit.
Pay, Provisions, Time and Travel
- Salary: DOE; Benefits Package: (see list below).
- Work hours: Mondays- Fridays from 7am - 4pm
- Training and certification: The company pays for required training, including OEM training and trade shows.
- Travel expenses: Travel is primarily local for customer site visits; gas and mileage reimbursed at the standard IRS rate.
- Drive time: Drive time is paid in accordance with applicable wage-and-hour law.
- PPE: All required personal protective equipment for site visits is provided.

Key Responsibilities
Service and aftermarket support
- Review field service reports, failure analyses, and vibration and alignment data to determine root cause and recommend corrective action.
- Evaluate existing installations and make repair, rebuild, retrofit, or replacement recommendations based on hydraulic fit, condition, lead time, and cost.
- Serve as the technical escalation point for field service technicians on application, hydraulic, and equipment selection questions.
- Identify equipment that is misapplied, oversized, or operating away from its best efficiency point, and develop upgrade or re-engineering options.
- Source and specify replacement parts, seals, and rotating assemblies, including cross-referencing obsolete or discontinued equipment.
- Walk down customer sites to gather field data, verify existing conditions, and take measurements needed for selection and quoting.
Application engineering and proposals
- Design and recommend equipment solutions including pumps, motors, controls, electrical systems, water systems, and related mechanical equipment.
- Review customer specifications, drawings, and technical documentation.
- Prepare equipment sizing calculations, hydraulic analyses, and system recommendations.
- Develop cost estimates, quotations, bills of material, and technical proposals.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.
- Maintain project records, drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
Customer, team, and project support
- Work with the outside sales team and customers to understand operational challenges, performance requirements, and project objectives.
- Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, field service, and project management teams.
- Support installation, startup, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities as needed.
- Provide technical presentations and product training to customers and internal teams.
- Mentor junior application engineers and serve as a technical resource across the branch.
- Support continuous improvement of engineering processes and customer service.
Required Qualifications
- Five (5) or more years in application engineering, technical sales, or engineering roles involving pumps and rotating equipment.
- Demonstrated experience on the service, repair, or aftermarket side of the pump industry, not exclusively new-equipment specification.
- Working knowledge of pump hydraulics, system curves, NPSH, and best efficiency point, and the ability to apply them to installed equipment.
- Familiarity with common failure modes in pumps, seals, bearings, and drives, and the ability to interpret field service findings.
- Ability to size and select pumps, motors, and related equipment for water, irrigation, municipal, industrial, high-purity, or energy applications.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and customer specifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including direct customer contact.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and quotes simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to travel to customer sites as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent field and application experience will be considered in place of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience servicing, rebuilding, or troubleshooting pumps in the field or in a repair shop.
- Experience supporting semiconductor fabrication or other high-tech manufacturing facilities, including ultrapure water (UPW), high-purity process, chemical handling, wastewater reclaim, or large-scale process cooling systems.
- Familiarity with the uptime demands and site protocols of a 24/7 fab or continuous-process environment, where unplanned downtime carries a high cost.
- Experience with irrigation, municipal water, wastewater, hydroelectric, or industrial process applications.
- Knowledge of PLCs, VFDs, SCADA, and control systems.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.
- Experience with vibration analysis, alignment, or predictive maintenance data.
- Experience with mechanical seal selection and sealing system design.
- Experience preparing submittals for municipal or engineered projects.
Physical Requirements
- Work hours are Mondays- Thursdays from 7am - 4pm
- Work in both office and industrial environments.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Walk construction, drilling, pumping, and industrial project sites, including uneven terrain.
- Wear required personal protective equipment on customer sites.
- Occasional travel within Idaho and the Pacific Northwest.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
