Job Brief
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing all accounting and financial operations of the company. As the sole member of the Finance Department, this position oversees the full accounting cycle, financial reporting, payroll coordination, budgeting, cash management, and regulatory compliance while serving as a trusted business partner to senior leadership.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full accounting cycle, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and provide financial reports and analysis to senior leadership.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, collections, and vendor management.
- Coordinate payroll processing with the company's payroll provider, review payroll for accuracy, reconcile payroll-related accounts, and ensure payroll tax filings and deductions are processed correctly.
- Monitor company cash flow, prepare bank reconciliations, and assist with cash forecasting to support business operations.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and variance analysis.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and all applicable federal, state, and local financial and tax regulations.
- Coordinate annual audits and work closely with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial service providers.
- Maintain accurate financial records, accounting policies, and internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Support inventory and fixed asset accounting, including reconciliations and depreciation schedules, as applicable.
- Partner with Human Resources on payroll, employee benefit reconciliations, and other finance-related matters.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and increase operational efficiency.
- Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience; experience independently managing an accounting function is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, payroll, and internal controls.
- Experience preparing financial statements, coordinating audits, and managing day-to-day accounting operations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Experience in a pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or other regulated industry is preferred.
