Position Goal(s)/Summary
This position is an hourly position under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Technology. The Computer Technician will be responsible for the general operation, repair, and procurement of technology equipment and infrastructure, as well as maximizing its use as a learning resource to support teaching and enhance student learning. This position will be primarily supporting the technology at Bear Lake Public Schools.
Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent in related field preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot problem areas (in person, by telephone, or via email) in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end-user assistance where required
- Diagnose and repair hardware problems, set up, configure and test equipment, perform preventative maintenance, and install upgrades and options
- Provide ongoing operational support, including operating system releases, upgrades, service pack installations, patches, security updates, and any system change activities for servers, laptops, desktops, software, and other electronic equipment necessary for the operation of interactive telecommunications in voice, data, and video as needed
General Responsibilities
- Install, configure and maintain a variety of computer and instructional technology hardware, including but not limited to: computer equipment, printers, handhelds, phones, and data communication equipment
- Diagnose computer problems to determine the cause of malfunction
- Assist in the development of long-range planning for new media, technology projects and computer hardware
- Assist technology team in researching relevant, appropriate technology equipment and software
- Represent the Technology Department on an ongoing basis with all initiatives being discussed/planned throughout the organization, reporting relevant information at team meetings
- Perform and document support methods and procedures
- Deliver technical support in a timely fashion
- Communicate clearly and completely with school staff regarding network status and service requests
- Maintain computer database systems
- Administer and maintain network user accounts for districts, as assigned
- Be well organized and work effectively with specific timelines
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and teamwork skills to ensure a cohesive and functional IT environment
- Present a positive image of the districts and ISDs served by the ETA
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and commitment to the mission and vision of the WMISD
- Keep up to date professionally
- Other duties as may be assigned
Minimal Qualifications
Upon date of hire:
- Must have practical experience in technology and telecommunication operations and maintenance in school, business, industry, hospital, or governmental agency
- Microsoft Windows-based software and A+ certification preferred
- Must have demonstrated skills and knowledge of human relations
- Must have demonstrated math, written, and verbal communication skills
Within 90 days of hire:
- Complete any required training modules/courses
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Must have a valid Michigan State Driver’s License or State ID
- Must have own transportation to and from assignments
- Ability to pass Criminal History Check, Pre-employment Physical, and Drug Screen
Wages and Benefits
$20.00/hour, benefits include health, vision, dental, life/ltd, along with paid sick, personal, holidays, and vacation.
