Disability Accommodation Specialist Level 2 (Provisional)
GENERAL DUTIES
This class of positions provides various services to disabled students. There are two assignment levels within this class. The following are typical tasks within this class of positions. Employees may perform other related duties for the purpose of providing support services to disabled students. Depending upon the needs of service, the duties of this position may require the use of one's own automobile in the performance of official duties; moreover, these duties may be performed on campus or at the student's home. Positions report to the College Director of Disabled Student Services, or equivalent. Upon application to the University Personnel Director, a college may utilize this title for persons who are to provide similar services to disabled employees.
Assignment Level I
Serve as a test accommodations proctor at various examinations to ensure administrative coordination with the appropriate faculty member.
Assists with the recording, note taking, and videotaping of classes, lectures, and other academic presentations, assisting faculty and staff as appropriate.
Serve as reader, note-taker, or transcriber for disabled students; also serve as lab assistant as required.
Visit student's home to ferry instructional materials between home and campus; insure hook-ups of special equipment at student's home.
Provide technical support to participating faculty members so as to facilitate the delivery of services to disabled students.
Maintain liaison with departments or other administrators overseeing tutors, and coordinate available college tutoring services so that the needs of the student may be fulfilled.
Maintain financial need criteria on projects participants, making appropriate referrals to the applicable state-sponsoring agencies.
Coordinate services available to students that deal with the anxiety, dysfunctional organizational patterns and the like.
Assignment level II
Conduct individual academic and programmatic needs assessments and evaluations for disabled students.
Develop individual specialized educational plans to enable students to attain their full academic potential.
Identify student disabilities, and then determine and provide those compensatory learning techniques that are appropriate to the student's needs.
Serve as assistive technology specialist; provide the appropriate individualized assistive accommodations for disabled students.
Coordinate the provision of remedial activities appropriate to the needs and capacities of the student.
Provide assistance in course review and selection so as to encourage students to satisfy academic requirements of their program of study.
Provide career development service and support with an acknowledgement of student disabilities so as to assist students in achieving career goals; provide disability-related advisement and accommodation planning for students; maintain liaison with medical professionals regarding the nature of student disabilities and appropriate accommodations.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The Disability Accommodations Specialist will report to the Director of Access Ability Center/Student Disability Services. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Disability Accommodations Specialist duties include but are not limited to the following:
Conduct intake interviews and review disability documentation to determine eligibility for accommodations
Develop and implement individualized accommodation plans tailored to students’ needs.
Coordinate auxiliary aids and services with an emphasis on note-takers, ASL interpreters, as well as related assistive technology
Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, accommodations and services.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of granted accommodations and make adjustments and supplementations as needed.
Participate in campus and CUNY-wide initiatives,
Stay current with best practices and legal developments in disability services and higher education.
Provide guidance and support to students in understanding their rights and responsibilities under disability law.
Act as liaison between students, faculty, and staff to facilitate the implementation of accommodations.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
- Assists with planning and providing and comprehensive program of services for students with disabilities
- Provides advisement and support to students, faculty, and staff regarding disability-related issues.
- Coordinates with external agencies and community resources to enhance service delivery.
- Supports the administrative functions of the office, including data tracking and reporting
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Assignment Level I:
An associate degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of full-time work experience working with adult individuals with disabilities (e.g., assessing accommodation needs, coordinating or implementing accommodations, case management or individualized support planning) in a college disability services office, vocational rehab, or similar setting; or
Assignment Level II:
An associate degree from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of full-time work experience working with adult individuals with disabilities (e.g., assessing accommodation needs, coordinating or implementing accommodations, case management or individualized support planning) in a college disability services office, vocational rehab, or similar setting; or
A master’s degree in disabilities studies, educational psychology, educational or school counseling, special education or a closely related field from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of full-time work experience as described in “1” above; or
English Language Proficiency : All candidates must be able to speak, read, write & understand English well enough to perform the duties of the position; proficiency will be evaluated at the time of interview.
CUNY considers full-time work to be at least 35 hours per week. Part-time experience of at least 20 hours per week may be prorated by half and credited instead of, but not in addition to, full-time experience for the same period (e.g., two months of related work experience at 20-34 hours per week equates to one month of full-time related work experience). Part-time experience of fewer than 20 hours per weekwill NOT receive any credit.
