Preliminary CTE Credential Requirements
· Work Experience: 3 years of full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid work experience directly related to hospitality, tourism, or recreation (1 year equals 1,000 clock hours). At least 1 year of this experience must be within the last 5 years, or 2 years within the last 10 years.
· Education: High school diploma, GED, or foreign equivalent.
· CPR Certification: Valid infant, child, and adult CPR training certified by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated person to teach Culinary Arts at John Muir Middle School in Burbank. In this role, you will deliver culinary instruction and promote essential food safety and sanitation practices. Your enthusiasm for culinary arts, as well as your ability to connect with diverse student populations, will be crucial in helping students to develop practical skills in the kitchen. This position offers an opportunity to shape the next generation of food enthusiasts and industry professionals.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver dynamic culinary arts lessons that cover fundamental cooking techniques, baking, and food presentation.
- Incorporate educational technology and learning tools to enhance student engagement and understanding of culinary concepts.
- Guide students through hands-on food preparation activities, emphasizing proper knife skills, sanitation, food handling, and safety protocols.
- Manage classroom kitchen environments efficiently, including inventory management, ingredient sourcing, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
- Foster an inclusive classroom atmosphere that respects students from diverse cultural backgrounds while teaching about nutrition and hospitality principles.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in culinary arts, including food industry roles such as restaurant work or food service management.
- Strong knowledge of food safety standards, sanitation practices, and kitchen operations.
- Skilled in cake decorating, baking, knife handling, and food presentation techniques.
- Experience managing teams as a chef or leading culinary projects is highly desirable.
- Ability to teach middle school students in an educational setting using innovative instructional methods.
- Familiarity with culinary technology tools used for instructional purposes.
- Excellent communication skills with a passion for teaching and mentoring youth from diverse backgrounds.
Pay: $51.00 - $60.00 per hour
