OVERNIGHT RECUPERATIVE CARE SUPPORT & SAFETY SPECIALIST
BSW, BSN, or Related Bachelor’s Degree
Job Summary
Haven Recovery is seeking a warm, dependable, and highly responsible Overnight Recuperative Care Support.
Our Recuperative Care program provides a safe home to heal for people leaving the hospital who would otherwise return to a shelter or the street. This position helps maintain a calm, safe, clean, and supportive environment throughout the night.
This is an awake overnight position working three to four 12-hour shifts per week from 7:00 PM–7:00 AM. The person in this role must be able to work independently, follow the complete shift checklist without repeated reminders, document services accurately, and know when to contact the nurse, leadership, or emergency services.
This is not solely a security position. The role combines overnight safety monitoring, compassionate client support, documentation, group facilitation, cleaning, and preparation for the next day.
Responsibilities
- Receive a complete handoff from Day Shift and review client notes, appointments, admissions, discharges, incidents, and unresolved concerns.
- Check in with each client and provide calm, respectful, trauma-informed support.
- Lead the scheduled 7:30–8:30 PM evening group and document attendance, participation, concerns, and goals.
- Maintain quiet hours and a safe, respectful overnight environment.
- Monitor common areas, security cameras, facility safety, and client well-being according to Haven policies.
- Stay awake, alert, and available throughout the entire shift.
- Use appropriate de-escalation skills when clients are upset, overwhelmed, or experiencing behavioral health or substance-use concerns.
- Recognize concerns that require help and promptly contact the nurse, leadership, 911, or other emergency services as appropriate.
- Complete accurate client notes, group documentation, incident reports, and shift records before leaving.
- Maintain professional boundaries while remaining warm, approachable, and supportive.
- Assist with admissions, orientations, room preparation, and discharge-related tasks when they occur during the shift.
- Provide medication reminders and wellness check-ins according to Haven policy. This position does not independently administer medications or provide nursing care unless separately authorized and working within professional scope.
- Confirm early appointments and transportation plans, wake clients at the agreed time, and report any problems.
- Prepare approved breakfast items and coffee before the morning shift.
- Complete house laundry, fold and store linens, prepare bedding sets, and restock welcome supplies.
- Restock bathrooms and other approved client supplies.
- Clean and reset the kitchen, living room, dining room, sensory room, hallways, bathrooms, and other shared spaces.
- Complete the assigned cleaning rotation, including baseboards, wall wipe-downs, ceiling corners, vents, and carpet cleaning.
- Report low supplies, maintenance concerns, property damage, safety issues, pests, mold, or other building concerns.
- Provide Day Shift with a complete handoff about each client, overnight events, health concerns, appointments, and unfinished tasks.

- Strong observation, judgment, problem-solving, and crisis-response skills.
- Strong written documentation and verbal communication skills.
