The Lower School Nurse supports the experience of Flint Hill students and faculty and embraces the School’s , the , and .
The Lower School Nurse is responsible for providing health services to Lower School students while on campus.
The Lower School Nurse collaborates with the Director of the Lower School and Lower School counselors and reports to the Director of Health Services. This position is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible, ten-month faculty position.
Faculty positions at Flint Hill are campus-based and require on-site work.
The expected pay range is $35-45/hour. The expected period of work is November 16, 2026 to March 12, 2027. The pay range represents a good-faith estimate of the hourly wage the school reasonably expects to pay for the position upon hire. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on a range of factors unique to each candidate, including, but not limited to, knowledge, skills, and abilities; relevant education; depth and breadth of experience; and any advanced skills the candidate may possess.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assesses and treats student injuries and mild-to-acute illnesses.
- Collaborates with the Assistant to the Director of the Lower School to monitor daily attendance and follow up with parents of students who are out sick.
- Ensures that all medications are available for students both during the school day and on field trips.
- Records, administers, and manages medications given to students.
- Supports and monitors the daily experience of students who must use medication in the treatment of illness or chronic disabilities.
- Records clinic visit notes.
- Attends meetings of the Student Support Team, when requested
- Manages the return-to-school protocol for students who have been absent for an extended period or on medical leave.
- Inventories clinic supplies and reports any needs to the Director of Health Services.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university; a current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and a minimum of 2-4 years of nursing experience.
- Maintain active CPR/AED certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2-4 years of experience working in a school or in pediatrics.
- Experience with leading technologies, including Google Suite and Apple applications and products.
Physical Requirements:
- Endurance: Standing or walking for extended periods during clinic hours, on playground duty, or on field trips.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Mobility: Ability to move quickly across campus or classrooms to respond to medical emergencies.
- Dexterity: Fine motor skills to safely administer medications, operate medical devices, and conduct health screenings (like vision and hearing tests).
- Physical Support: Lifting, positioning, or assisting students during an injury or emergency.
Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
