About NAMI DuPage:
For more than 40 years, NAMI DuPage has been the county's leading nonprofit organization providing free mental health support, education, advocacy, and peer-led services. Since 2015, NAMI DuPage has successfully operated one of Illinois' first peer-led Living Room Programs, providing a welcoming, recovery-oriented alternative to emergency departments for adults experiencing emotional distress.
With support from the Illinois Department of Human Services, NAMI DuPage is expanding the Living Room to provide 24-hour, 365-day-a-year peer-led crisis support.
Position Summary:
The Living Room Program Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of NAMI DuPage's 24/7 Living Room Program by coordinating activities, resources, and processes, enabling peer support staff to focus on providing exceptional care to guests. This position also supports the guest experience through program coordination and occasional direct interaction with guests and families.
Working closely with the Living Room Supervisor, this position helps ensure the Living Room remains prepared to deliver high-quality, recovery-oriented services through operational coordination, documentation support, program monitoring, scheduling support, and quality improvement activities.
The Program Coordinator contributes directly to the guest experience by helping maintain a safe, welcoming, well-equipped, and recovery-focused environment while supporting compliance with Illinois Department of Human Services Living Room Program standards. This position works on-site within NAMI DuPage's Living Room Program and is integrated into the program's daily operations, supporting both staff and guests while helping to ensure high-quality, recovery-oriented services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Directly provide and/or ensure the following:
Program Coordination
- Coordinate the Living Room's day-to-day operational needs to ensure continuous program readiness.
- Support staffing coordination to help maintain uninterrupted 24/7 program coverage, including filling in for a shift as needed.
- Monitor program supplies, wellness resources, educational materials, and guest comfort items.
- Coordinate purchasing and inventory to support uninterrupted guest services.
- Assist with maintaining a safe, welcoming, and recovery-oriented environment for guests.
Program Quality & Support
- Support documentation processes to promote timely, accurate, and complete service records.
- Assist with collection and tracking of program data, outcome measures, and performance indicators.
- Prepare supporting documentation for grant reporting, monitoring visits, and quality improvement activities.
- Review documentation for completeness and assist with maintaining program compliance.
Guest Services Support
- Coordinate community resource materials available to guests and families.
- Assist with outreach activities that increase awareness of Living Room services.
- Support implementation of new initiatives that enhance guest services and program effectiveness.
- Help ensure guests have access to educational materials, recovery resources, and referral information.
- Welcome guests and visitors as needed and assist in creating a warm, recovery-oriented environment that supports peer-delivered services.
Team Coordination
- Coordinate onboarding activities for freelance Peer Support Workers.
- Assist with scheduling trainings, meetings, and professional development activities.
- Support implementation of new workflows and operational improvements.
- Serve as a resource to staff regarding program processes and operational procedures.
Continuous Quality Improvement
- Assist with monitoring program performance measures.
- Help identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and guest experience.
- Support implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist in maintaining compliance with IDHS Living Room Program standards and NAMI DuPage policies.
Other Duties
- Carry out other responsibilities as assigned to meet program needs and organizational goals
- Because the Living Room Program operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, all staff are expected to demonstrate flexibility to support operational needs, training requirements, and occasional schedule adjustments.
Qualifications and Necessary Skills
- Minimum of two years' experience in behavioral health, peer support, recovery services, crisis services, or related human services.
- Commitment to recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, and person-centered care.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
· Ability to relate effectively with individuals, community members, and staff of diverse backgrounds, personalities, and communication styles.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to lead in a fast-paced, recovery-oriented environment.
- Must possess good problem-solving skills, be resourceful, and take initiative when needed
- Strong customer service skills.
- Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and other databases as required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be flexible and willing to support a non-profit by participating in fundraising events and other outreach activities.
- Ability to summarize and extrapolate key information from meetings and conversations to develop new forms and documents.

· Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation.
Preferred
- Peer Support Worker
- Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in behavioral health, healthcare, human services, nonprofit programs, or a related field.
- Experience with crisis response or peer-run programs.
