TITLE: Family Support Coordinator
HOURS: 40 hours/week
SALARY: $19.15Hourly
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
ACCOUNTABILITY: SAFE Program Director
DESCRIPTION:
The Family Support Coordinator will be responsible for the provision of supportive services to children and families utilizing SAFE services.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE FAMILY SUPPORT COORDINATOR:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of domestic and sexual violence issues, along with a demonstrated knowledge of the effects of domestic and sexual violence on children.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of the dynamics and effects of teen dating violence.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of child development.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of effective intervention techniques for children and teens.
5. Demonstrated ability to provide effective supervision to program staff;
6. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in program development and evaluation;
7. Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate effectively with a diverse population.
8. The ability to form and maintain effective working relationships with SAFE staff members, clients, volunteers and community members.
9. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills and the ability to work independently along with the ability to work in a crisis setting.
10. Demonstrated ability to work within an empowerment framework and to use a team-oriented approach with clients, co-workers, other agencies and community members.
11. The ability to provide supportive supervision to Child Advocate and Activity Facilitator and any/all Children’s Program staff or volunteers.
12. A relevant four-year college degree is preferred along with 2 years of experience providing services to children and families in crisis.
DUTIES OF THE FAMILY SUPPORT COORDINATOR:
Direct Services:
1. Meet individually with parents and/or their children who are receiving services from SAFE for the purposes of assessing needs, developing goals and alleviating the effects of witnessing or experiencing domestic or sexual violence.
2. Provide effective intervention to parents and their children who have witnessed or been affected by domestic or sexual violence.
3. Co-facilitate a weekly children’s support group.
4. Provide parenting support for SAFE program participants who request it.
Supervision and Leadership:
1. Supervise S.A.F.E. staff and volunteers who are responsible for the provision of child care, activities, and support group services.
2. Facilitate regular Children’s Advocacy Team Meetings;
Program Coordination:
1. Participate in public outreach and public speaking activities for the purposes of informing the community about SAFE’s children’s advocacy services;
2. Coordinate all children’s advocacy program input of statistical data into computer and other recordkeeping systems for grant and other statistical reports;
3. Participate in Children’s Advocacy Program evaluation activities;
4. Attend community networking meetings and engage in activities designed to develop and maintain appropriate community partnerships in furtherance of SAFE’s mission.
General:
1. Adhere to SAFE’s Confidentiality Policy and Procedures;
2. Participate in agency and program evaluation activities as necessary;
3. Attend and contribute to regular team meetings and staff meetings;
4. Engage in a continuous process of learning and professional development;
5. Complete other tasks as assigned;
6. Provide the Board of Directors with a written monthly report of activities and concerns;
7. Request assistance from the SAFE Program Director in situations where legal or ethical obligations are unclear;
8. Act as a representative of SAFE in the community. The Executive Director, however, must approve any issuance of SAFE policy or position statements;
9. Read, be familiar with and adhere to the mission, policies, procedures and core values of SAFE.
