We are seeking a detail-oriented Solar Estimator to join our team and support the successful planning and execution of solar energy projects.
Position Summary
The Solar Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial and industrial solar projects. This role works closely with Business Development, Engineers, Project Management, and Operations teams to evaluate project opportunities, develop project budgets, and support proposal development. Also, this position will require working with vendors to negotiate and purchase materials.
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial and industrial solar projects.
- Review plans, specifications, bid packages, and customer requirements.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for solar modules, racking, inverters, electrical equipment, and balance-of-system materials.
- Estimate labor, equipment, subcontractor, and material costs.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
- Prepare proposals, bid packages, and scope letters.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and value-engineering opportunities.
- Collaborate with Engineers, Project Management, and Construction teams throughout the estimating process.
- Support project turnover meetings after project award.
- Maintain estimating databases, pricing records, and historical cost information.
- Assist with project cost reconciliation and lessons learned reviews.
- Purchasing.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of estimating experience in solar, electrical, construction, renewable energy, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings and specifications.
- Ability to perform material takeoffs and cost analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other estimating tools.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience estimating commercial solar projects.
- Knowledge of NEC requirements and solar construction practices.
- Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Helioscope, Aurora, or similar software.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field preferred.
