Job Summary
Breakaway Education’s Mendham office is seeking an experienced, engaging SAT Reading and Writing tutor to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished tutor who enjoys working one-on-one with high school students and wants a flexible, part-time schedule without having to recruit or manage clients.
**This is an entirely in-person position based in Mendham, New Jersey. We are not considering remote applicants.**
Our tutors are knowledgeable, personable, organized, and dependable. They communicate effectively with both students and parents and know how to make challenging material accessible while helping students become more confident test-takers.
**Responsibilities***
* Provide individualized, in-person SAT Reading and Writing instruction
* Identify students’ strengths and areas for improvement
* Teach effective approaches to reading comprehension, grammar, rhetoric, vocabulary in context, and time management
* Prepare thoughtfully for each session and maintain organized student notes
* Communicate clearly and professionally with students, families, and Breakaway staff
* Help students remain motivated, accountable, and confident throughout the preparation process
**Qualifications***
* Significant prior experience teaching or tutoring SAT Reading and Writing
* Thorough knowledge of the current digital SAT and its Reading and Writing content
* Strong command of grammar, reading comprehension, rhetoric, and test-taking strategy
* Warm, personable teaching style and ability to connect with high school students
* Excellent organization, reliability, and communication skills
* Professional tutoring or teaching experience beyond the entry level* Bachelor’s degree required
* Ability to tutor students in person at the Breakaway Education Mendham office
This position is approximately **10 hours per week**.
Tutors create their own schedules in coordination with their students, but candidates must offer a combination of **weekday and weekend availability**.
Most tutoring takes place after school, during evenings, and on weekends.
**Compensation starts at $45 per hour, with a higher rate possible based on SAT tutoring experience and qualifications.**
