Machine Operator (Equipment Operator)

Machine Operator Job Summary:
- Shifts Available:
- 1st Shift 6:00am – 2:30pm
- 2nd Shift: 3:00pm – 11:30pm
Our client is seeking mechanically inclined Machine Operators to join its manufacturing team in Richmond, VA. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining precision metal-forming equipment used to manufacture custom industrial heat exchangers. Operators work in a fast-paced production environment with frequent machine changeovers while maintaining high standards for quality and safety.
Machine Operator Responsibilities
- Set up and operate metal-forming equipment used in the production of heat exchanger components.
- Produce quality parts while meeting production standards and efficiency goals.
- Read blueprints, routers, and work instructions to properly set up tooling and machines.
- Perform machine changeovers and tooling adjustments.
- Complete daily preventative maintenance and equipment inspections.
- Safely operate electric, pneumatic, floor, and hand tools.
- Identify and tag unsafe equipment when necessary.
- Inspect parts using measuring devices including calipers and tape measures.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and tooling life.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while following all company safety procedures.
Machine Operator Qualifications
- Previous experience operating manufacturing or metalworking equipment preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Experience working with production machinery.
- Ability to read tape measures, calipers, and other precision measuring devices.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and manufacturing work instructions.
- Basic math skills, including fractions and decimals.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, and reach.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Team-oriented attitude with strong attendance and reliability.
- CNC machine operation experience.
- Experience operating Fin Punch Press equipment.
- Experience operating Tube Expanders.
- Metal fabrication or industrial manufacturing experience.
- Preventative maintenance experience.
- Forklift certification is a plus.
- Previous experience in industrial manufacturing.
- Forklift or overhead crane experience a plus
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- Experience assembling large fabricated equipment or metal products
