Position Overview
We are seeking qualified Virtual Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) to provide remote interpreting services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across New Mexico during the 2026–2027 school year. Interpreters will support students in virtual and classroom-based educational settings through secure online platforms, ensuring equal access to instruction, school activities, and educational services.

Responsibilities
Provide real-time virtual interpretation services using American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication modalities as required.
Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers during instructional and school-related activities.
Interpret classroom lectures, discussions, assessments, IEP meetings, assemblies, and extracurricular events as assigned.
Maintain professional ethics, confidentiality, and FERPA compliance.
Collaborate remotely with educational teams to support student learning and communication access.
Complete required documentation and attend virtual staff meetings when applicable.
Ensure reliable internet connectivity and a professional remote work environment.
Qualifications
Required - High school diploma or equivalent.
Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
Previous educational or professional interpreting experience.
Ability to pass required background checks.
Access to high-speed internet and appropriate technology for remote service delivery.
Preferred
EIPA score meeting New Mexico educational requirements.
RID certification or equivalent credentials.
