Duties
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG codes in accordance with current medical coding guidelines.
- Prepare and submit health insurance claims using advanced billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies and third-party billing processes.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility to facilitate smooth claim processing.
- Maintain detailed and organized medical records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies and optimize coding accuracy for inpatient and outpatient services.
- Stay updated on evolving medical coding standards, insurance policies, and regulatory changes affecting revenue cycle management.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting, with familiarity using billing software and EMR/EHR systems.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, DRG classifications, and medical terminology.
- Understanding of health insurance claim processing, third-party billing procedures, and revenue cycle management.
- Ability to interpret medical records accurately while adhering to coding guidelines for inpatient and outpatient services.
- Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple claims efficiently.
- Knowledge of medical collection processes and health insurance policies is highly desirable.
- Certification in Medical Coding (such as CPC or CCS) is preferred but not mandatory.
