JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The basic function of the Scheduler is to work one on one with the physicians and patients in scheduling future appointments and or procedures.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Scheduler reports to the Clinic Manager.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
· High school diploma or GED required
· Secretarial and/or business courses preferred. Medial Terminology preferred
Experience
· One year experience in a medical office preferred
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
· Ability to relate to people in person and on the telephone in a pleasant, business-like manner.
· Ability to communicate in a friendly, compassionate and courteous manner with patients and their families and co-workers.
· Knowledge and compliance with HIPAA.
· Must have the knowledge to count and do basic arithmetic calculations.
· Must have the ability to read and write English at high school level.
· Must be able to communicate effectively verbally.
· Ability to work with others. Familiar with computer and telephone operations.
· Detail oriented.
Physical
· Body Position: Sitting and standing.
· Body Movements: Walking, turning, stooping, and reaching.
· Body Senses: Must hear well enough to answer and converse on phone. Must see well enough to read forms, computer terminals, charts, printouts, patients and visitors.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Inside and sedentary, requiring sitting, standing, stooping/bending, lifting and walking.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Physically reports to assigned work location regularly and timely based upon daily work schedule as determined by supervisor. The ability for Midwest Gastrointestinal Associates, P.C. to operate its business and provide Gastroenterology services is highly dependent upon your regular and timely attendance and being physically present. MGI’s normal hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
· Work beyond daily work schedule as determined by supervisor based upon demands placed on MGI by patients, physician requests and any other request that necessitates working overtime on any particular scheduled workday.
· Stays physically awake and coherent while performing all job duties.
· Individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Communication
· Communicate relevant information to managers, supervisors, physicians and co-workers to maintain continuity of operations.
Duties and Tasks
· Schedules office visits into computer system.
· Schedules outpatient procedures with endoscopy centers and hospital GI labs.
· Contacts patients to review time and place of procedure and preparation along with instructions for procedure.
· Contacts insurance companies and referring physicians as needed.
· Attends meetings as directed by supervisor.
· Other duties as assigned.
