American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a night shift acute care position requiring at least 1 year of med/surg experience and a WI or compact RN license.

Acute care Med Surg unit on the 4th floor with 30 beds
-
Patient ratios of 4-6 on days and 5-6 (occasionally up to 7) at night
-
Common diagnoses include post-op knee, hip, shoulder, thyroidectomy, appendectomy, and cholecystectomy patients
-
Medical patient population includes HTN, HF, pneumonia, COPD, AMS, TIA, DM, sepsis, UTI, and AKI cases
-
Rare titration of drips such as Heparin and PCAs
-
Charge RN takes an assignment, sometimes full and sometimes modified
-
Nurse aide ratio of 1:10 on the unit
-
Uses CPAP (home settings) and rarely BiPAP equipment
-
Central tele monitoring with on-site tele techs; RNs are not required to read or interpret strips

Cerner EMR used, currently transitioning to Epic
-
12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with a 30-minute unpaid meal break

Weekend requirements vary from every 3rd to every other weekend, occasionally none
-
Holiday requirements include 2 of 3 winter holidays and every other holiday otherwise

No call or standby requirements

Floating required to like units, including as a CNA to IMC, ICU, or ED
-
13-week assignment with 36 guaranteed hours per week

Active WI or compact RN license required
-
Current BLS (AHA) certification required

Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience required

Additional experience preferred, especially for first-time travelers

Safe, dependable clinical practice expected
-
Provide direct patient care to a mix of surgical and medical patients on a busy Med Surg unit
-
Navy blue scrubs required as part of the dress code
-
Unit-specific orientation includes 3 days for agency staff, with CBTs on day one and shadowing opportunities if completed early
-
Schedule is set by unit managers, though requests are accommodated when possible
-
Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local
-
Previous Marshfield employees must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
