Overview
Empowering Technology Solutions (ETS) is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to deliver high-quality technical outcomes across Professional Services and escalations. Our Senior Systems Engineers are trusted technical leaders - responsible for project delivery, consulting, advanced troubleshooting, technical discovery, and helping plan for clients’ future needs and growth.
This is a highly visible role. You will meet with clients, lead technical conversations with confidence, and represent ETS professionally. You’ll also collaborate closely with internal teams (Service Desk, Professional Services, and Customer Success) to ensure work is done the right way, documented well, and supportable long after the project is complete.
This role is in-person in Bloomington, IL and may require occasional travel to client sites nationwide when needed.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver expert-level technical support and project execution across diverse client environments
- Lead or contribute to Professional Services projects (planning, implementation, validation/testing, documentation, closeout)
- Handle escalations from the Service Desk and support junior engineers/technicians through coaching and knowledge transfer
- Perform technical discovery for client opportunities and contribute to accurate scoping (requirements gathering, dependencies, risks, assumptions, and recommended approach)
- Design and implement solutions that are secure, supportable, and aligned with ETS standards
- Maintain high-quality documentation (as-built details, configuration notes, diagrams/runbooks/KB updates as needed)
- Communicate clearly with clients and internal stakeholders—setting expectations, providing updates, and closing the loop
- Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements that reduce future rework and strengthen the overall platform
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional IT experience in progressively advanced technical roles (MSP experience strongly preferred)
- Strong technical breadth with the ability to own complex troubleshooting and project delivery
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (able to communicate with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders)
- Strong documentation habits and comfort creating clear technical notes, instructions, and standards
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and track time consistently
- High accountability and follow-through (you verify, you close the loop, you don’t pass uncertainty downstream)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for onsite client visits.
Preferred
- MSP / managed IT experience holding senior technical positions
- Experience supporting regulated environments (healthcare, government contracting, financial services) is helpful but not required
- Familiarity with common MSP tools and platforms such as ConnectWise Manage, NinjaRMM, IT Glue, Meraki, Sophos, 3CX, and backup/BCDR solutions (Axcient/Datto, Acronis, etc.)
- Comfort using AI tools to improve documentation, analysis, and technical efficiency
Technical Experience (Strong Working Knowledge)
Candidates should have working knowledge of technologies commonly supported in MSP environments, including:
- Networking: WAN/LAN fundamentals, Layer 2/3 concepts, multicast, QoS, VPN (SSL/IPSec), firewall fundamentals
- Infrastructure / virtualization: VMware, Hyper-V, Azure-hosted virtual environments
- Microsoft ecosystem: Windows 10/11, Windows Server 2019/2022, Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, Microsoft 365, Exchange concepts, Intune, Conditional Access, Entra ID concepts
- Common MSP platforms/tools (examples): Cisco Meraki, Ubiquiti/UniFi, Sophos, 3CX, Axcient/Datto BCDR, Acronis, ConnectWise Manage, NinjaRMM, IT Glue (or similar)
You do not need to be an expert in every platform listed, but you must be able to troubleshoot effectively, follow standards, and communicate clearly.
