Quality Manager/Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – Structural Steel Fabrication Description
Our client, a well-established structural steel fabrication company, is seeking a hands-on Quality Manager/Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to support a planned leadership transition while driving quality, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization. This is a highly visible role with direct access to leadership and significant influence over quality systems, operational processes, and strategic decision-making. Quality Manager/Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – Structural Steel Fabrication Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain the company's Quality Management System in compliance with AISC
- Serve as the primary QA/QC authority across all fabrication projects and production operations
- Perform and oversee visual, dimensional, ultrasonic (UT), and magnetic particle (MT) inspection
- Interpret NDT results and make accept/reject quality decisions
- Coordinate and manage third-party inspection vendors, including radiographic testing providers
- Maintain welder qualifications, continuity logs, WPS/PQR documentation, and material records
- Identify quality concerns proactively and partner with production teams to reduce defects
- Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions
- Standardize inspection procedures, reporting, and documentation practices
- Support the transition from paper-based quality processes to digital workflows
Quality Manager/Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) – Structural Steel Fabrication Qualifications
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required
- 5+ years of QA/QC experience within structural steel fabrication required
- Experience working in an AISC-certified fabrication environment required
- Experience supporting bridge projects and/or fracture-critical structural steel work required
- Hands-on experience performing and interpreting NDT inspections required
