Hernandez Service Corporation is an established intermodal trucking company serving customers throughout Oregon and Washington. We are seeking an experienced, dependable, and organized Intermodal Dispatcher to join our growing team.
This position is responsible for coordinating daily container movements, communicating with drivers and customers, monitoring appointments, and helping ensure that every load is completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
Responsibilities
- Dispatch owner-operators for daily container pickups and deliveries.
- Coordinate freight through the BNSF and Union Pacific rail ramps in Portland.
- Schedule customer pickup and delivery appointments.
- Monitor container availability, last free days, cutoff dates, and return locations.
- Track drivers and provide customers with timely status updates.
- Review daily workloads and assign loads based on location, availability, hours of service, and equipment requirements.
- Communicate clearly with drivers regarding load instructions, appointments, delays, and changes.
- Respond quickly and professionally to operational problems.
- Maintain accurate load information, notes, documents, and driver communications in the transportation management system.
- Coordinate empty-container returns and confirm equipment availability.
- Work closely with the accounting and operations teams to document detention, layovers, chassis usage, and other accessorial charges.
- Help maintain strong relationships with customers, drivers, rail facilities, and warehouses.
- Participate in a rotating after-hours or weekend on-call schedule when needed.
Qualifications
- Previous trucking dispatch experience is required.
- Intermodal or drayage dispatch experience is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with the Portland BNSF and Union Pacific rail ramps is preferred.
- Understanding of driver hours-of-service requirements and appointment scheduling.
- Ability to manage multiple drivers, loads, appointments, and customer requests at the same time.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Comfortable using transportation management systems, email, spreadsheets, text messaging, and online customer portals.
- Able to remain professional and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable attendance and attention to detail are essential.
- English and Spanish bilingual ability is preferred but not required.
- Experience with Trinium TMS is a plus.

Schedule
- Full-time, Monday through Friday
- Regular schedule: 40-50 hours per week
- In-person position at our Portland location
- Rotating after-hours or weekend availability may be required
