JOB SUMMARY:
This position is 4 days per week (M, W, Th, F). The Adult Basic Education Intake/Follow up Specialist Is responsible for daily upkeep of all Adult Education data and files, scheduling and conducting orientations, and communicating with students, instructors, and the public. The Adult Basic Education Intake/Follow Up Specialist will work out of the Hawthorne Center for Working Families, part of the Hawthorne Community Center, located at 70 North Mount Street in Indianapolis, Indiana. 1-2 days per week will also be spent at WorkOne Indy located at 4410 Shadeland Avenue in Indianapolis.
SALARY: $18 per hour. Benefits include: 5 personal days, 8 sick days, Public Employee Retirement Fund (PERF), and life insurance eligible
EDUCATION AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School Diploma required
· Strong organizational skills are necessary
· Computer literate and strong working knowledge of Microsoft office suite
· Good communication and interpersonal skills
· Reliable with the ability to work independently
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Perform a variety of clerical duties required for the operation of the Adult Basic Education (ABE) office
· Provide services to ABE program office staff, faculty, and adult learners
· Receive and route incoming telephone calls and take messages
· Assist in the recruiting effort with follow-ups to prospective students
· Greet and provide information to visitors and employees in a professional manner
· Maintain office files, supplies, and instructional materials
· Enter all student data into the ABE reporting systems (Connectable / InTERS)
· Serve as the main resource in contact for ABE related questions and needs
· Distribute program-related information to clients at the direction of the ABE Program Coordinator and/or BRCP Director
· Schedule and conduct student orientations including the registration process in administering of the TABE preassessment to all students
· Oversee adult education student application process and ensure timely submission and completion of forms
· Notify ABE program coordinator of any client scheduling or participation issues
· Verify and assist proper attendance has been kept for all students
· Attend all required trainings
· Network with local business and industry to identify training needs
· Follow-up with students after classes or trainings are completed to ensure satisfaction and verify job placement
· Assist with all Adult Education functions including graduations, fairs, and other marketing/public relation events
· Work occasional evening and/or weekend work in addition to normal work hours

· Ability to develop and present educational programs
· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
· Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills verifiable through past employment
· Ability to work effectively with a wide range of personalities and constituents from diverse backgrounds
· Excellent computer knowledge and experience
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
