Core Responsibilities
Crew Leadership & Daily Operations
- Lead concrete crews (form carpenters, laborers, finishers) across multiple small‑to‑mid‑size pours.
- Assign tasks, manage productivity, and train new personnel.
- Maintain tight communication with the sitework superintendent and GC.
Layout, Prep & Coordination
- Interpret civil plans, structural details, and site grading sheets.
- Establish lines, grades, elevations for curb/gutter & sidewalks
- Oversee subgrade prep, compaction, proof‑rolling, and stone base installation.
- Coordinate with utilities crews to ensure proper placement of storm boxes, headwalls, and pipe penetrations.
Formwork & Reinforcement
- Direct installation of forms for curb/gutter, sidewalks, ramps, and storm structures.
- Ensure proper bracing, alignment, ADA compliance, and slope/tolerance requirements.
- Oversee rebar placement, dowels, embeds, anchor bolts, and blockouts.
Concrete Placement & Finishing
- Plan pour logistics: manpower, equipment, truck spacing, pump scheduling.
- Manage placement, consolidation, screeding, bull‑floating, edging, and finishing.
- Ensure mix compliance (slump, air, temperature) and coordinate with batch plant.
- Oversee curing, saw‑cutting, joint layout, and protection of fresh concrete.
Quality Control
- Conduct pre‑pour inspections for forms, reinforcement, elevations, and compaction.
- Verify compliance with plans, specs, ADA slopes, and tolerances.
- Document pours, delivery tickets, cylinders, and test results.
- Identify and correct defects (honeycombing, cracking, settlement, scaling).
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce PPE, equipment safety, fall protection, and trenching/shoring rules.
- Conduct daily JHAs and toolbox talks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, hazard‑free work area.
Equipment & Materials Management
- Manage vibrators, screeds, saws, trowels, curb machines, and finishing tools.
- Coordinate deliveries of rebar, forms, embeds, and concrete.
- Track inventory and prevent downtime.
Documentation & Reporting
- Daily reports: manpower, quantities, equipment, delays, weather impacts.
- Pour logs, inspection records, and coordination notes.
- Communicate production status to project management.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years concrete experience; 2+ years in a leadership role.
- Strong blueprint reading and layout skills (grades, slopes, ADA).
- Knowledge of ACI standards, rebar placement, formwork systems, and finishing techniques.
- Ability to operate and direct use of concrete equipment.
- Competence in scheduling, sequencing, and coordinating with utilities, grading, and GC teams.
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in outdoor conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- ACI Flatwork Finisher or Concrete Construction Technician.
- OSHA 10/30.
- Experience with curb machines, laser screeds, and site concrete scopes.
- Familiarity with Charleston‑area soils, compaction requirements, and local inspection processes.
Pay: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour
