Job Title: Civil Estimator
Job Location: Denver, CO
Base Salary: $90K-$125K
Requirements: 2+ years of Heavy Civil Estimating experience on DOT, Sitework and Underground Utility projects.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates for civil and concrete construction projects including water, utilities, structural, and sitework scopes. The Estimator will support bidding and pre-construction activities for public (DOT) and private projects, use HCSS and other estimating tools, coordinate with project managers and subcontractors, and contribute to value engineering and risk analysis to drive profitable award decisions.
Key Responsibilities:

Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for civil, concrete, structural, water, utilities, and sitework projects.

Develop bid proposals, pricing breakdowns, and estimate abstracts for both public (DOT) and private project solicitations.

Use HCSS, spreadsheets, and estimating software to build, store, and analyze cost models and historical data.

Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes; build scopes and incorporate subcontractor pricing into overall estimates.

Review project plans and specifications to identify scope gaps, risk items, constructability issues, and specialty requirements.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field staff to validate assumptions, site conditions, schedules, and resource needs.

Perform value engineering, cost optimization, and alternatives analysis to improve competitiveness while protecting margin.

Prepare bid packages, clarifications, quantity reconciliations, and post-bid analyses; participate in pre-bid meetings as needed.

Maintain an organized estimating database, historical cost records, and unit price libraries to support continuous improvement.

Ensure compliance with DOT standard specifications and local/regional regulatory requirements in cost assumptions.
Qualifications:

2+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction with demonstrated work on concrete, utilities, water, structural, and sitework projects (public and private).

Experience with HCSS estimating suite (or comparable heavy civil estimating software) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.

Strong understanding of DOT standards/specifications, civil construction methods, and material/labor productivity rates.

Excellent takeoff abilities, attention to detail, and experience developing comprehensive bid proposals and subcontractor scopes.

Proven ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.

Effective communication skills for coordinating with project teams, subcontractors, and clients; able to present estimates and rationale clearly.

Analytical mindset with ability to perform risk analysis, quantity reconciliation, and value engineering.

Degree or technical diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, or equivalent experience preferred.

Valid drivers license and willingness to visit job sites for takeoffs and pre-bid assessments as required.
