The position of Materials Supervisor is appointed by, reports to, and receives delegated responsibilities from the site Operations Manager.
Team Oversight: Supervising teams involved in procurement, inventory control, and logistics.
Strategic Initiatives: Materials planning and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance productivity, efficiency, and other performance metrics.
Inventory Management: Monitoring inventory levels and ordering supplies as needed.
Problem Solving: Addressing bottlenecks or problem areas and proposing solutions.
Quality Control: Monitoring suppliers and service providers for quality and performance.
The Materials Supervisor is responsible for:
Providing day-to-day supervision of department staff which includes:
- Scheduling work
- Monitoring performance to ensure compliance with guidelines, policies, and
procedures
- Providing feedback on performance
- Writing and conducting performance reviews
Ensuring adherence to corporate compliance requirements in relation to purchasing, inventory, supplier contracts and logistics activities.
Understanding the rules, regulations, and general requirements of international and domestic shipping standards.
Contributing to the development, execution, and training of departmental procedures.
Contributing to the selection, development, and management of strategic and core suppliers to meet cost and performance goals. (Including VMI deployment, 2 tier commodity strategy)
Monitoring current supplier performance and identifying supply/demand challenges.
Leading strategic sourcing and operational excellence initiatives relative to materials and logistics activities.
Creating and maintaining of purchase orders based on MRP demand via ERP system.
Maintaining of supplier delivery date accuracy within the ERP system.
Identifying and negotiating opportunities for improved quality, cost, delivery from suppliers.
Performing supplier delivery and cost performance evaluations. (Quarterly)
Maintaining positive supplier relationships.
Utilizing the Supplier Assessment Program (P-080). Provide supplier evaluations to the Site Quality Manager.
Monitoring supplier delivery dates. Advise the planning department regarding status of critical or late deliveries.
Improving depth of knowledge relating to Valex product lines, processes, and industry developments.
Supervising the performance of the logistics and purchasing departments. (Including but not limited to Inventory turns/accuracy of counts, purchase orders, and supplier commitments.)
Reporting on established Key Performance Indicators defined by Operations Manager.
Generating demand reports, including forecast data, provided by other departments to
establish stocking levels of purchased material.
Performing all other duties as are assigned by the site Operations Manager.
The following criteria are used to evaluate the Materials Supervisor:
The accuracy of data entered into QAD.
The effective use of the Supplier Assessment Program.
Control of purchase order activities.
The cost saving effectiveness to the company.
Completion of assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and work in a professional manner with internal and external personnel.
The effectiveness of supplier management (ex. delivery and follow-up)
Timely, professional, and accurate service to internal customers.
Accountability for inventory accuracy and turns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ten or more years purchasing related experience in a manufacturing environment.
Ten years’ experience using an automated MRP system.
Demonstrated proficiency with MS Windows, Word, and Excel software.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Read, write, and speak English.
Experience in a supply chain-based leadership position with direct reports.
