Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Administrative Assistant to join our team! This position performs clerical, bookkeeping, and accounts receivable/payable work and minor administrative and business detail, communication with general public, and other duties as directed by Howard County Surveyor.
DUTIES:
Prepare and submit claims to Auditor for payment.
Manage accounts receivable, working with a petty cash fund, keeping a log to balance in accordance with the Auditor’s office.
Completes all clerical requests for the Surveyor’s office.
Greets visitors and answers inquires or directs to appropriate area or person.
Answer telephone calls, directing calls, taking messages, or answering questions.
Opens and distributes incoming mail.
Assists with after hour meetings.
All other duties as assigned.
SKILLS:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished with written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the county.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Incumbent must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, very clear organization skills, proficient accounting skills, computer skills, and proficient with Microsoft Office and web-based databases.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Typing, computer, telephone, bookkeeping, accounting, and organizational skills are needed for the completion of this job’s duties.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to communicate tactfully, both verbally and in writing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Duties are performed in a standard office environment with moderate noise levels.
