**Wire & Cable certification testing is required for this position**
Summary:
We're looking for a detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our testing team. Working under general supervision, you'll prepare and calibrate test equipment, run standardized and specialized product tests, and document findings that support certification decisions. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys precise, methodical work and wants to build expertise in wire and cable compliance testing.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with fellow technicians and certifiers to keep projects on track and within budget
- Configure and run test equipment for an assigned product line, evaluating results against applicable standards and making certification recommendations
- Execute routine testing independently; support senior staff on more complex or non-standard test procedures (including re-examinations, audits, and investigations)
- Build and break down test samples, connect instrumentation, and prepare the lab for each test cycle
- Capture accurate technical data and turn it into clear, well-organized test reports
- Run calculations to interpret results against product specs, flagging any deviations to your manager or certifier
- Keep the lab clean, organized, and ready for the next round of testing
- Own the upkeep and calibration integrity of lab equipment, escalating any non-conformances per protocol
- Safeguard the chain of custody and integrity of customer samples per quality procedures
- Serve as a point of contact with other departments as needed
- Take on additional lab responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- Technical certificate, associate degree in engineering technology, or 2-4 years of hands-on experience in wire/cable testing
- Working familiarity with relevant testing standards (e.g., UL 2556, CSA C22.2 No. 0.3, NFPA 262, and related specifications)
- Solid grasp of electrical/electronic circuits, wire and cable standards, and basic troubleshooting
- Comfort operating instrumentation such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, thermocouples, RTDs, anemometers, and chart recorders, plus shop equipment like saws, drills, and bending machines
- Experience with tensile, flame, and chemical testing methods for cable products
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and translate them into test procedures
- Understanding of calibration principles and general lab operating procedure
- Strong self-management skills — comfortable juggling multiple project timelines with minimal oversight on routine work
- Clear written and verbal communicator, team-oriented, and client-focused
- Sharp problem-solving instincts and steady attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; LabVIEW experience a plus
