Overview: The Mental Health Technician (MHT) supports individuals transitioning from institutional settings, such as state hospitals, to community-based living. This role provides direct care and assistance to clients receiving therapeutic and recovery-oriented services, helping promote stability, safety, and daily functioning. MHTs work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support client wellbeing and ongoing recovery goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Care and Support:
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal care and hygiene, as needed. Monitor and document clients' behavior, progress, and overall wellbeing.
- Provide support and encouragement to clients, promoting independence and self-care skills. Assist in the implementation of individualized treatment plans under the direction of clinical staff.
Facility Cleanliness and Maintenance:
- Ensure that all areas of the facility, including bedrooms and bathrooms, are clean and well maintained.
- Assist clients in maintaining their personal living spaces, encouraging and helping them to keep their rooms clean and organized.
- Perform routine cleaning tasks and inspections to ensure a hygienic and safe environment. Ensure timely snow removal and compliance with all weather-related safety protocols.
Crisis Intervention and Management:
- Respond to crises and emergencies, providing appropriate interventions and support. Follow established protocols for crisis intervention and de-escalation.
- Report any incidents or concerns to the Clinical Director, Administration, or designated staff member promptly.
Therapeutic Activities and Engagement:
- Facilitate and participate in therapeutic activities and group sessions as directed by clinical staff. Encourage client participation in recreational and therapeutic programs.
- Provide transportation for clients to appointments and activities as needed.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client interactions, observations, and interventions.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and organizational policies. Participate in regular staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work collaboratively with the clinical and medical teams, providing input and feedback on client progress and needs.
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and other staff members.
- Build positive and supportive relationships with clients to foster a therapeutic environment. Any other duties needed to help drive our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our Company’s Values

Qualifications:
Education and Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Qualified Medication Administration Person (QMAP).
- Valid, unrestricted, driver’s license
- Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.
Experience:
- Previous experience in a mental health or residential care setting is preferred. Experience with crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Basic computer skills for documentation purposes.

Physical Requirements
The physical requirements listed below are essential functions of the position and may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
● Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods (of up to 4 hours at a time) throughout the shift
● Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis
● Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach to assist clients and complete job-related tasks on a regular basis
● Ability to respond quickly to emergencies, including moving rapidly throughout the facility including the regular use of indoor and outdoor staircases
● Ability to assist with client redirection, support, and physical intervention as needed and within training and scope
● Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including snow removal responsibilities
● Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as cleaning, rounds, and documentation ● Visual, auditory, and verbal abilities sufficient to monitor clients, observe behavior, read documentation, and communicate effectively
● Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
