Position Summary
The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen and dining facility. This position also assists in teaching and supervising assigned program participants in food service and dining responsibilities.
Key ResponsibilitiesFood Preparation & Service
- Prepare and cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner using food provided for the day.
- Ensure meals are prepared in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain food safety and sanitation standards at all times.
Kitchen Maintenance & Sanitation
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, and appliances after each meal.
- Clean ovens and stovetops daily.
- Maintain cleanliness of sinks, floors, drains, vents, filters, and garbage disposals.
- Wash and sanitize garbage cans and allow them to dry properly.
- Clean and polish stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers.
- Check freezer areas for ice buildup and maintain proper storage conditions.
- Keep stock rooms organized and clean shelves as needed.
- Mop and sanitize kitchen and dining areas daily.
- Follow all workplace safety regulations and procedures.
Program Support
- Teach and supervise assigned program participants in food service and dining responsibilities.
- Promote a positive, respectful dining environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of food service experience required.
- Culinary arts training or coursework is a plus.
- Food Handler Certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Must complete an annual physical examination.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
- Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and walking.
- Ability to work in a kitchen and cafeteria environment.
