Tire Technician responsible for inspecting, servicing, repairing, and replacing tires on a variety of vehicles. This role balances technical automotive skills with customer service, ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to high quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Tire Service & Maintenance: Inspect, balance, rotate, repair, and replace tires on passenger vehicles, light trucks, and commercial vehicles (if applicable).
- Diagnostics & Inspection: Assess tire wear patterns, check TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems), evaluate tread depth, and identify underlying alignment or suspension issues to report to the service advisor.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate specialized shop equipment, including tire changers, wheel balancers, hydraulic lifts, jacks, and pneumatic hand tools.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to shop safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and correct torque specifications when installing wheels.
- Customer Service: Explain tire conditions, recommendations, and maintenance timelines clearly to customers or service advisors.
- Shop Upkeep: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace; properly dispose of scrap tires and automotive fluids.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience in tire service or a general automotive maintenance role is highly preferred (entry-level roles may accept on-the-job training).
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with TPMS sensors, tire sizing, load ratings, and speed ratings.
- Licensing: A valid driver's license with a clean driving record (required to move customer vehicles in and out of service bays).
- Certifications: TIA (Tire Industry Association) certification or ASE certification is a strong plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver objects weighing up to 50–75 lbs regularly.
- Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and crouch for extended periods during an 8-to-10 hour shift.
- Comfortable working in varying temperature conditions (shop environments can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter).
