Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Shipping and Receiving Supervisor to help manager our Shipping logistics and material flow. You will act as the central point of contact for all inbound raw materials (including heavy steel shipments) and outbound finished custom fabrication projects. Your primary goal is to ensure inventory accuracy, verify documentation, and coordinate timely shipments while collaborating closely with shop floor teams. The ideal candidate has a strong background in industrial logistics, excellent administrative skills, and a commitment to safe shop practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Inbound Logistics: Coordinate the unloading of incoming steel, components, and shop supplies; verify shipments against purchase orders and bills of lading.
- Outbound Logistics: Arrange freight carriers, schedule pick-up times, and coordinate the staging and loading of finished custom steel structures onto flatbeds or trucks.
- Documentation & Compliance: Prepare and maintain accurate logistics records, including packing lists, commercial invoices, bills of lading, and freight bills.
- Inventory Tracking: Update our inventory control systems in real time, record received materials, and conduct regular cycle counts to maintain accurate stock levels.
- Carrier Relations: Communicate daily with freight brokers, trucking companies, and local drivers to track shipments and resolve transit delays.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with material handlers, forklift drivers, and production management to ensure a smooth flow of materials through the yard.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Experience: 2–4 years of experience in shipping, receiving, or logistics management. Experience in a steel fabrication, manufacturing, or heavy industrial shop is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with Inventory Control Systems, ERP/MRP software, and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook).
- Communication: Strong organizational and communication skills to effectively handle carriers, vendor discrepancies, and shop personnel.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, navigate a busy shop floor, and work comfortably in a non-climate-controlled environment.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Preferred Skills (Optional)
- Certified forklift operator; experience with heavy-duty forklifts or overhead cranes is a plus.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish perferred.
- Knowledge of DOT flatbed cargo securement and strapping standards.
