Position Summary
Axis Industries USA is seeking an experienced Wire Harness Technician to join our team. This is more than a production assembly position—we are looking for someone with previous wiring or electrical assembly experience who can independently build both prototype and production wiring harnesses from engineering documentation.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable interpreting drawings, wire lists, and assembly documentation with minimal supervision. Beyond standard production work, this position will support our engineering department by building one-off prototype harnesses, assisting with product development, and helping transition new designs into production.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a wide variety of work, from repetitive production assemblies to custom prototype builds that require critical thinking and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Build complete wiring harness assemblies from engineering drawings, schematics, wire lists, and assembly documentation.
- Independently assemble prototype and low-volume harnesses with minimal direction beyond the provided engineering documentation.
- Cut, strip, terminate, label, and assemble wires and cable assemblies to specification.
- Perform ultrasonic splice welding and other specialized wire processing operations (training provided).
- Operate automated wire cutting, stripping, marking, and terminal crimping equipment (training provided).
- Inspect completed assemblies to ensure they meet engineering drawings, IPC workmanship standards, and customer quality requirements.
- Identify drawing discrepancies, manufacturability concerns, or opportunities for process improvements and communicate them to engineering.
- Support new product development by assisting engineers with prototype builds and design validation.
- Maintain accurate production records and follow established manufacturing procedures.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Assist with other manufacturing or shop activities as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous experience building wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, electrical panels, automotive wiring, or similar electrical assemblies is strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and assembly documentation.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality standards.
- Comfortable learning new manufacturing processes and specialized production equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Dependable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, reach, and perform repetitive assembly work throughout the day.
- Comfortable working in a dog-friendly shop environment (our friendly chocolate lab is part of the team).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automotive, powersports, off-road, heavy equipment, or military wiring harnesses.
- Experience with IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards.
- Experience operating wire processing equipment, crimp machines, or ultrasonic welders.
- Familiarity with Deutsch, Molex, TE Connectivity, Aptiv, Amphenol, or similar electrical connector systems.
- Experience with prototype fabrication or low-volume manufacturing.
Compensation & Benefits
- $18.00 - $25.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
