Position Summary
Onalaska School District is seeking a reliable and experienced Long-Term Substitute Transportation Mechanic to assist with the maintenance and repair of school district vehicles, including school buses. This is a year-round position working variable hours during the school year, with the potential for additional hours during the summer months.
- Assist with routine inspections and preventive maintenance of school buses and district vehicles
- Perform minor repairs under the direction of the lead mechanic or Transportation Supervisor
- Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records
- Ensure compliance with Washington State Patrol and OSPI safety regulations
- Monitor vehicle condition and report safety issues promptly
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Support vehicle preparation for state inspections
- Perform minor repairs as needed or as directed by the Transportation Supervisor
Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic mechanical knowledge and experience working with vehicles
- Valid Washington State driver’s license
- Ability to work independently and follow safety protocols
- Clear background check, driving record, and fingerprinting (required for school district employment)
- Experience working with diesel engines or large vehicle fleets
Preferred:
- Familiarity with Washington State Department of Transportation and WSP inspection standards
- ASE certification or technical training in vehicle repair
- Variable Hours During the School Year (schedule to be determined)
- Additional hours may be available during summer months
- Hourly wage: $24.37 + DOE
