Job Purpose
Facilitates growth opportunities for the Rappahannock Tribe and its strategic partners. Creates business development strategies to support success and help achieve its organizational goals while increasing its revenue.
Achieves their long-term goals and expands into new markets by locating new business opportunities, researching leads, establishing relationships with potential clients, and arranging appointments with Federal and State agencies and commercial contacts. Must have a comprehensive understanding of the Tribal products and market positioning, in addition to the wider industry. It's also necessary to stay up-to-date with the latest industry developments by researching other competitors in the marketplace.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Researching prospective accounts in targeted markets, pursuing leads, identifying and pursuing avenues for growth in both product and services opportunities.
- Assessing the company’s target market and industry and developing strategies to gain new clients
- Collaborating with the director and tribal staff to ensure that they meet all client requirements
- Maintaining relationships with current clients
- Identifying new prospects within the industry and preparing detailed sales presentations
- Responsible for developing, writing, and editing proposals in response to requests for proposals (RFPs), and requests for quotes (RFQs)
- Work closely with business development teams, subject matter experts, and finance to ensure proposals are accurate, compliant, and compelling.
- Lead the Economic Development Board’s quarterly meetings.
Qualifications
- At least five years’ experience and demonstrated knowledge in developing new business opportunities in Federal, State, and commercial markets.
- Ability to communicate effectively with groups, individuals, businesses, supervisors, Tribal staff, and the general public.
- Ability to learn and understand the culture of the Rappahannock Tribe and to adapt knowledge and experience to work in a manner that aligns with traditional Tribal practice and goals.
- Ability to establish working relationships with other organizations and business development practitioners.
- Requires strong writing, research, and project management skills, as well as ability to meet tight deadlines and maintain high quality standards.
- Must be able to write a Business Plan, map its implementation and operations, estimate development costs as well as profit projections.
- Ability to prepare and analyze reports and data and have skill in the operation of necessary tools and equipment, i.e. computer, word processing, spreadsheet software, online webinar and meeting software, and general office equipment.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
Working Conditions
This position requires adaptability in working indoors in an office setting as well as outdoor work on enterprise sites, conference and training facilities, and individual meetings with partner agencies and organizations. May require some evenings or weekend work.
Physical Requirements
This is not physically demanding, but on a periodic basis may require standing for extended periods of time, lifting objects under 50 lbs., and working outdoors in inclement weather.

This position provides monthly progress reports to Council.
