Job Overview: The Counter Sales Representative serves as the primary point of contact for walk-in customers while also supporting inside sales through phone and email order processing. This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, identifying customer needs, recommending appropriate products, and ensuring orders are entered accurately and fulfilled efficiently.
The Counter Sales Representative develops strong product knowledge across hydraulic hose, fittings, adapters, couplings, and related industrial products to provide technical support and practical solutions. This role works closely with the Shop Foreman, Warehouse, Inventory Control, and Operations to deliver a fast, accurate, and professional customer experience. This role also supports our Outside sales team with inventory checks, order processing, and outbound sales call follow ups on key accounts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Counter Sales
- Assist walk-in customers with product selection and technical solutions.
- Identify customer needs through effective questioning and product knowledge.
- Build customer confidence by providing accurate recommendations.
- Prepare quotes and process sales orders accurately.
- Coordinate customer pickups and will-call orders.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional sales counter.
Inside Sales
- Answer incoming phone calls and respond to customer emails.
- Process customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare quotations for hydraulic hose assemblies, fittings, adapters, and related products.
- Follow up on quotes and customer inquiries.
- Maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers.
- Support outside sales representatives as needed.
Technical Product Support
- Identify hydraulic hose, fittings, adapters, couplings, and related components.
- Assist customers in selecting appropriate replacement products.
- Interpret customer samples, specifications, and application requirements.
- Coordinate with the Shop Foreman on custom hose assemblies and technical questions.
- Continue developing product knowledge through ongoing training.
Customer Service
- Deliver a professional and solution-oriented customer experience.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
- Communicate order status, lead times, and product availability.
- Coordinate with Warehouse and Fabrication to meet customer deadlines.
- Escalate complex issues when appropriate.
Sales & Business Development
- Identify opportunities to increase sales through complementary products and value-added services.
- Promote company capabilities including custom hose fabrication and industrial products.
- Build long-term customer relationships based on trust and responsiveness.
- Support branch sales goals through outstanding customer service.
Operational Support
- Maintain accurate customer and order information within the ERP system.
- Verify pricing, availability, and order accuracy.
- Assist with inventory inquiries and product lookups.
- Follow company SOPs for order entry, returns, warranties, and customer communication.
- Support branch operations as business needs require.
Leadership Expectations

Qualifications:
Required
- 2+ years of customer service, inside sales, or industrial distribution experience.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to learn technical industrial products.
- Basic computer and ERP proficiency.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred
- Experience in hydraulic hose, fluid power, industrial supply, heavy equipment, construction, or related industries.
- Experience identifying hydraulic hose and fittings.
- Microsoft Business Central or similar ERP experience.
- Industrial parts counter sales experience.
