Hi there, we are seeking a positive, active, and patient aide to support a friendly neurodivergent young adult in North Berkeley. This role is a meaningful blend of academic tutoring, communication support, and engaging community activities.
About the Student
He is a calm, happy young adult who is partially nonverbal and uses a cochlear implant. He loves activities like swimming, pottery, biking, and going on walks. He is familiar with aides and responds well to upbeat, encouraging interaction.
Responsibilities
- Assist with his online high school curriculum
- Support communication skills through conversation and social interaction
- Drive him to local activities (pottery class, the pool, appointments)
- Encourage light physical activity such as biking and walks
- Help with building independence and daily routines
- Collaborate with parents and therapists as needed
Work Environment
You’ll primarily work in our beautiful home in North Berkeley, just a few minutes’ walk from the Rose Garden. A quiet and private downstairs area is available for tutoring, studying, and structured daily activities.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Comfortable with physical activity (biking, walking, etc.)
- Friendly, patient, and proactive with communication
- Currently in college or hold a degree
- ABA certification (or willingness to complete our free 40-hour online training)
Compensation & Scheduling
- $30 to $35 per hour
- Weekday availability preferred; weekend support welcomed but not required
- Flexible schedule — ideal for students or recent graduates
