Job Summary
The one-on-one aide will work in the classroom- their primary responsibility is to work with a designated child who needs particular attention to create and maintain a meaningful relationship to ensure that they take maximum benefit of what is being taught in class.
Education and Experience:
Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED
Ability to physically move about the building/classroom/playground.
Experience working with special needs students or childcare experience preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Required Skills/Abilities: Other duties may be assigned
- Knowledgeable about special education programs.
- Work with child on a one-on-one basis by providing them with undivided attention to help them meet their goals effectively.
- Work in coordination with the education team to implement behavioral plans to meet child’s needs for social, educational, cognitive, mental and physical development.
- Maintain knowledge of child’s medical history (if applicable) to ensure that any medical emergencies are handled appropriately.
- Observe child for signs of improvement or decline in goals and provide feedback to education team.
- Keep teacher/assistant informed of events (i.e. child concerns, any signs of illness or injury, etc.).
- Understand Head Start goals, guide-lines, and objectives as stated in Head Start Program Performance Standards.
- Maintain confidentiality of any information about Head Start children, parents, or families learned through association with Head Start.
- Maintain adult/child ratios at all times.
- Work cooperatively to maintain smooth center operations, including center maintenance (moving furniture, equipment, children)
- Act as a positive role model for children.
- Implement positive behavior supports, including pyramid model and conscious discipline strategies.
- Attend trainings as needed.
- Valid NYS driver’s license and personal transportation
- Ability to relate to people with various socioeconomic and educational backgrounds
