Key Responsibilities of the Echo Technician
- Perform transthoracic echocardiograms in accordance with physician orders and departmental protocols
- Prepare and position patients to obtain high-quality diagnostic cardiac images
- Operate and maintain echocardiography equipment safely and efficiently
- Review studies for image quality and completeness before submission for interpretation
- Recognize and document significant findings for the interpreting cardiologist
- Maintain accurate patient records and imaging documentation
- Provide compassionate patient care while explaining procedures and ensuring patient comfort
- Collaborate with cardiologists, physicians, nurses, and the wider healthcare team to support excellent patient outcomes
Requirements of the Echo Technician Role
- Current BLS certification
- Current RDCS or RCS credential
- Minimum 2 years of recent Echo Technician experience
- Strong knowledge of echocardiography procedures, cardiac anatomy, and ultrasound imaging techniques
- Excellent technical, communication, and patient care skills
