Position Summary
Spoerl Trucking is seeking a motivated, organized, and driven Operations Dispatcher to join our Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with transportation or logistics experience who is ready to take the next step in their career.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving problems, and takes ownership of their work. You'll play a key role in supporting daily dispatch operations, coordinating drivers and freight, communicating with customers, and ensuring loads move safely and efficiently. We're looking for someone with the ambition to learn, take on additional responsibilities, and grow into a larger operations or dispatch role within our company.
Essential Responsibilities
- Coordinate the deployment of company drivers and owner-operators to provide efficient customer service.
- Monitor freight movement through proactive tracing and tracking of shipments.
- Ensure all customer orders are completed accurately and on time.
- Communicate with customers regarding service schedules, shipment updates, and any service delays or issues.
- Proactively identify operational challenges and work toward timely solutions to minimize service disruptions.
- Collaborate with Load Coordinators and Operations staff to ensure complete customer coverage.
- Update and maintain accurate driver assignments and load information within the McLeod Transportation Management System.
- Determine cost-effective routing while maximizing fleet utilization.
- Monitor driver Hours of Service and Electronic Logging Device (ELD) compliance to ensure legal and efficient operations.
- Manage a high volume of emails and prioritize communication in a timely, professional manner.
- Build positive working relationships with drivers, customers, and internal departments.
- Support dispatch operations by assisting with day-to-day decision-making and load management.
- Take ownership of assigned responsibilities while continuously looking for opportunities to improve processes and customer service.
Additional Responsibilities
- Investigate and resolve issues involving delayed, damaged, missing, or misrouted freight.
- Assist with driver support, including loading and unloading information, directions, equipment needs, and appointment updates.
- Communicate with drivers using phone, satellite communications, and other technology.
- Work collaboratively with Safety, Maintenance, Recruiting, Accounting, and other departments to support company operations.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and provide occasional weekend coverage as needed.
- Perform additional operational duties as assigned.
