United Public Adjusters & Appraisers, Inc. is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Property Loss Inspector to conduct comprehensive on-site inspections of residential and commercial properties following property damage.
This is a field-focused, technical role responsible for thoroughly documenting property conditions and damage through photographs, measurements, sketches, observations, and detailed inspection reports. The Property Loss Inspector will work closely with our public adjusters, estimators, and claims professionals to ensure they have complete and accurate field information to support the evaluation, preparation, and presentation of property insurance claims.
The ideal candidate brings a strong background in property inspection, construction, restoration, estimating, home inspection, property damage, or insurance claims and understands how buildings are constructed, damaged, and repaired.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed field inspections of residential and commercial properties following fire, water, smoke, wind, storm, and other property losses.
- Inspect and document affected interior and exterior areas, including roofing, siding, walls, ceilings, flooring, cabinetry, structural components, finishes, and other building materials.
- Take comprehensive photographs and accurately document property conditions and visible damage.
- Take accurate measurements of rooms, structures, and affected building components.
- Prepare sketches, diagrams, field notes, and detailed inspection documentation.
- Identify building materials, finishes, construction methods, assemblies, and components affected by a loss.
- Observe and document conditions that may require further investigation or evaluation.
- Gather relevant information from property owners, contractors, and other individuals present at inspection sites.
- Assist public adjusters and estimators by providing accurate measurements, photographs, observations, and field documentation needed to evaluate the scope of damage and repair requirements.
- Identify areas that may require additional evaluation by contractors, engineers, environmental professionals, or other specialists.
- Conduct follow-up inspections and re-inspections when additional documentation is required.
- Upload photographs, measurements, reports, and support documentation into company systems accurately and promptly.
- Utilize mobile technology and property documentation tools while working in the field.
- Communicate inspection findings clearly and professionally with internal team members.
- Maintain an organized field schedule and complete inspection documentation within established timelines.
- Travel to properties throughout Long Island, New York City, and the surrounding metropolitan area as required.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in property inspection, construction, restoration, home inspection, estimating, insurance claims, or property damage assessment strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of residential and/or commercial building construction.
- Ability to identify common building materials, finishes, construction assemblies, and repair methods.
- Ability to recognize and thoroughly document property damage and affected building components.
- Strong observational and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to take accurate measurements and produce comprehensive photographic documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable using smartphones, tablets, cameras, and field inspection applications.
- Ability to work independently in the field while collaborating closely with an internal claims team.
- Professional demeanor and ability to interact effectively with homeowners, business owners, contractors, and other industry professionals.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the assigned territory.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with one or more of the following is highly desirable:
- Property insurance claims
- Property damage restoration
- Residential or commercial construction
- Home or building inspection
- Construction estimating
- Reading estimates, scopes of work, plans, or construction drawings
- Xactimate or comparable estimating software
- Matterport, DocuSketch, Encircle, or similar property documentation technology
Insurance experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with substantial construction, restoration, estimating, or property inspection experience who are interested in applying their technical expertise to the property insurance claims industry are encouraged to apply.
Compensation & Travel
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $80,000–$100,000 annually, depending on experience, technical knowledge, and qualifications.
Because this is a field-based position, the company also provides reimbursement for approved business travel, along with reimbursement for approved business-related tolls and parking. Travel reimbursement is provided separately from base compensation in accordance with company policy.
