Role Summary
The Medical Assistant at Northwest Cancer Clinic is a specifically trained individual who demonstrates expertise in dealing with patients during all aspects of care. Performs administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the Physician(s) or Physician’s designee.
Reporting lines:
The Radiation Oncology Medical Assistant reports directly to the front office manager. There are no direct reports to this position.
Key responsibilities:
The Medical Assistant provides care to the patients under direct supervision at Northwest Cancer Clinic following the principles of evidenced based best practice.
- Collaborate with oncologists and the multidisciplinary team as it relates to patient care
- Work under the direct supervision of the Physician(s), APPs, and Nurses
- Wound care and dressing changes under the direction of the Nurse or Physician
- Assist as directed by the physician(s) and/or APPs in procedures/treatments
- Responsible for cleaning and restocking consult rooms, as needed.
- Provide patient education as directed by physicians/APPs/nurses
- Accurately document patient data; past and current medical history, allergies, medications
- Obtain vital signs and report any abnormal findings to the physicians/APPs or nurses
- Administer medications under the supervision of the physician(s)
- Maintain open communication with front office personnel and members of the health care team.
- Schedule and follow-up to assure completion on all diagnostic studies that are ordered including proper documentation and obtain physician’s signature on test result.
- Acquire results and notify physician(s) of results on all interim reports.
- Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, family, and friends
Key working relationships:
As a Medical Assistant, you need to develop strong relationships with the following internal parties:
- Director of Clinical Operations
- Front Office Manager
- Physician(s)
- Nursing and Medical Assistant Team
- Patient Services
- Radiation Therapists
Administrative duties:
- Proficient in computer documentation with knowledge of Microsoft applications
- Properly control the release of proprietary and confidential information
- Scheduling appointments and diagnostic tests as directed by physician/APP
- Arrange for laboratory and imaging services
- Handle correspondence, test results, etc
- Obtain medical clearance for patients prior to procedures or certain treatments
Education and Experience:
Essential:
- High School Diploma
- 1 year experience as a Medical Assistant preferred
- Current BLS certification
- Certification as a Medical Assistant
- Certified to start an IV

Pay: $19.00 - $25.00 per hour
