We have an enjoyable but complicated 25 year old son with special needs due to his struggles with Tuberous Sclerosis. Despite seizures and the intellectual and behavioral issues he has experienced due to his condition and his medication, he is a lovely and engaging young man who enjoys fun word-play, drawing, helping to clean up the community, playing games, and enjoys a lot of social interaction. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated caregiver to provide care and structure daily activities.
At this point, he is living in our family home in Rockridge but we plan to transition him to his own apt. where he will need 24/7 care. We are planning to train individuals now with the plan that he will receive overnight care in the future (we will be able to accommodate flexible shift schedules up to 24 hours at a time, if desired). For the time being, we are looking for between 8-12 hours a week.
The ideal candidate will bring positive energy, provide creative and engaging support, interaction, walking, community engagement, and other activities, as well as when supporting activities of daily living. Must be able to gently but firmly behaviorally and physically redirect and address impulsivity while remaining positive and engaging. Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or other special needs is a plus.
