Summary
Establish, organize and update all necessary functions of the tool crib. Store and distribute tools for all manufacturing operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect and measure tooling for wear and damage
- Store, issue and receive tooling
- Locate misplaced tooling or equipment
- Maintain proper inventory levels in the tool crib
- Report all damaged tooling to supervisor
- Perform minor repairs to tooling
- Deliver tooling to work center when necessary
- Create alternate tool setups for tubing dies
- Clean wet and dry sizers
- Clean sizer blocks
- Clean extrusion tooling with: heaters, acetylene torch, glass bead cabinet
- Maintain all necessary paperwork for operation
- Replace air and acetylene tanks and tips
- Lube all 1018 steel tooling (stainless steel not required)
- Clean and check strip and mica band heaters
- Clean and check cast heaters and cords
- Clean bolts and washers (check for damage)
- Replace damaged threaded inserts
- Inform supervisor of needed changes to tool packages
- Assist operators and foremen with requests
- Assemble tool boxes for operator use
- Check returned tool boxes for missing tools (reporting them to the supervisor) refill tool box and return to proper location
- Clean mini 1/8” NPT pipe parts
- Load and unload sizer blocks
- Make up tooling orders
- Set-up mandrels and spyder applications
- Issue sign out sheets for equipment taken out of Tool Crib
- Sharpen cutter blades and grind #13 blades
- Check and repair hex wrenches
- Maintain/repair thermocouples
- Make-up mica and strip heaters (repairing as needed)
- Complete maintenance on grinder, drill press and equipment
- Clean and repair dehumidifiers as needed
- Repair rawhide hammers
- Occasional ordering of supplies may be required
Additional Duties:
- Clean transport carts and lube wheels
- Clean storage racks
- Clean work benches and tool room areas including tool room walls, doors, and windows
- Organize tooling on shelves
- Clean glass bead cabinet & order and replace glass bead media when necessary
- Clean vacuum system
- Maintain and organize cabinets
- Sharpen pencils
- Cut note paper with paper cutter
- Clean and maintain computer area
- Inform next shift person of remaining duties
- Lock tool crib when necessary to keep unauthorized employees out
- Sort and inspect gloves
- Notify supervisor of needed tool room inventory
- Notify supervisor of replacement tools needed for proper tool cleaning
- Replace blades in cleaning knives
- Maintain inventory of bolts and washers
- Empty dehumidifiers when needed
- Clean CNC router tooling before returning it to cabinet
- Clean lift tables, check operation and lube wheels
- Check all threaded holes in tooling
- Clean tool bins on work bench
- Identify all tool baskets and carts with work center number and tech code
- Date all tool package orders and time needed
- Order gaskets from warehouse (as needed)
- Issue gloves (tear down – with exchange)
- Issue operator tool boxes
- Issue replacement tools (replace broken – with exchange)
- Make asst. gaskets and maintain inventory
- Place flint on torch igniters
- Periodic check for rusty tooling on shelves and clean
- Clean and maintain shop vacuum
- Clean drop-off table and rack outside of tool crib
- Notify supervisor for repair or damaged tooling
- Collect tooling laying around work centers
- Collect cutter blades from disposal units
Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.)
- 7 months to 1 year of related experience required; at least 1 year of plastic extrusion experience strongly preferred.
- General computer skills (preferably Microsoft Office Suite) as well as familiarity with basic tools and their functions. Welding experience helpful, but not required.
Pay: $25.00 - $31.00 per hour
