POSITION SUMMARY
Skilled field technician responsible for the installation, adjustment, preventive maintenance, and repair of the full range of commercial and industrial door products including rolling steel, sectional overhead, high-speed, fire-rated, and counter/grille doors. Dock eperience a plus. Work is performed at customer facilities throughout the service area. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, demonstrated commitment to safety (including Lockout/Tagout compliance), and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Installation
- Install all types of overhead and commercial door systems, including:
- Rolling steel coiling doors
- Sectional overhead doors
- High-speed and high-performance doors
- Sheet doors and counter shutters
- Rolling grilles and security gates
- Fire doors and smoke-rated door assemblies
- Coordinate with general contractors, facility managers, and other trades during construction and renovation projects
Service, Diagnosis & Repair
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, and electrical failures across all door types
- Troubleshoot motor operators, control systems, and safety sensing devices
- Replace or repair worn or damaged components including springs (torsion and extension), cables, drums, tracks, rollers, hinges, seals, slats, and panels
- Adjust and align doors to restore proper operation, sealing, and safety function
- Respond to emergency service calls promptly and professionally
Preventive Maintenance
- Perform scheduled PM services per manufacturer specifications and customer service agreements
- Lubricate, inspect, adjust, and test all door components
- Identify and document wear, damage, and code compliance issues; recommend corrective action
- Maintain PM checklists and service records accurately
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) hazardous energy control procedures for all service and repair work
- Follow written LOTO procedures specific to each machine and equipment type
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times including fall protection when working at heights
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at customer facilities and in the company vehicle
- Participate in all required safety training, toolbox talks, and company safety programs
- Report near-misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions to the Service Manager immediately
Customer Relations
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding scope of work, findings, and recommendations
- Educate customers on proper operation and basic care of installed equipment
- Obtain customer sign-off and approval upon job completion
- Represent the company with professionalism and a "customer first" attitude at all times
Documentation & Administration
- Complete work orders, service reports, parts requests, and time records accurately and on time
- Photograph work before and after service for documentation purposes
- Maintain accurate parts and materials inventory on the company vehicle
- Assist with parts ordering and tracking as needed
- Submit required documentation through company systems in a timely manner
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in commercial/industrial door installation and service, dock equipment, or a closely related mechanical trade preferred
- Equivalent combination of technical education, apprenticeship, or vocational training considered
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with working knowledge of mechanical,, and electrical systems
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and installation drawings
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize multiple service calls
- Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Professional written and verbal communication skills for customer interaction and documentation
- Basic computer skills for digital work order and reporting systems
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean, and insurable driving record required
- OSHA 10-Hour General Industry certification preferred (OSHA 30 a plus)
- Manufacturer product training certifications (e.g., Rite-Hite, Horton Automatics, LiftMaster, Albany, Rytec) preferred
- Forklift operator certification preferred
Working Conditions
- Industrial, warehouse, and commercial facility environments
- Daily travel to customer sites throughout the assigned service territory
- Exposure to noise, grease, dust, and typical industrial workplace hazards
- Overtime, weekend, or on-call work may be required based on business and customer needs
- Work around moving equipment, overhead hazards, and loading dock traffic
Pay: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour
