Mid-Level Tax Accountant / Tax Preparer

Position Summary
West & West Accounting is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mid-Level Tax Accountant to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone with 3-5 years of recent public accounting experience preparing individual and business tax returns who is looking to grow into a senior role.
The successful candidate will prepare a wide variety of tax returns, communicate directly with clients, identify tax planning opportunities, and work closely with senior accountants during tax season. We are looking for someone who enjoys building client relationships while maintaining high technical standards and accuracy.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare and review accurate federal and state tax returns including:
- Individual (Form 1040)
- Partnerships (Form 1065)
- S Corporations (Form 1120-S)
- C Corporations (Form 1120)
- Trusts and Estates (Form 1041)
- Prepare quarterly estimated tax calculations.
- Analyze client financial information and reconcile tax workpapers.
- Communicate directly with clients to gather information and answer tax questions.
- Research and resolve moderately complex tax issues.
- Identify tax savings opportunities and communicate recommendations to senior staff.
- Assist with IRS and state notices and correspondence.
- Maintain organized electronic workpapers and documentation.
- Assist with bookkeeping and payroll to ensure complete financial records for clients.
- Meet filing deadlines while managing multiple engagements simultaneously.
- Participate in year-round tax planning and advisory services.
Qualifications
Required
- Associates in accounting, or bachelor degree or specific experience in tax accounting (degree not required if sufficient tax prep experience)
- 3–5 years of recent public accounting tax experience.
- Experience preparing both individual and business tax returns.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
- Experience using professional tax preparation software, (bonus if Pro Series).
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and word.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience leveraging AI for drafting emails, letters, responses, data analysis, etc.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
- Expect to work more than 40 hours per week during tax season with more flexibility outside of tax season
Preferred
- Able to prepare taxes on day 1
- Experience with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
- Experience with pro series, or similar tax software.
- Experience preparing multi-state returns.
- Experience working tax season
